“When we show up honestly and imperfectly and stretch ourselves to our limits; when we celebrate each other, when we succeed and pick each other up when we fall, community is a natural outcome. A community that extends beyond the walls of the gym — just like the results we gain from our efforts within it. From there, the community becomes a self-perpetuating force as it continues to nurture the culture that created it.”
Fitness is life changing & has the power to be life saving, and that increases exponentially when fitness is infused with community. This weekend the FtF fam, athletes past and present, friends, family, and supporters came together to rally around @kricketchirps in her valiant return to running, her first consistent “race” since her strokes & dissections, taking what we do outside the walls of the gym.
We’ve been training since the spring, strength & endurance workouts mixed with interval running, slowly increasing our volume & pace. Early last week Kristin ran 3 consistent miles with negative splits, coming in just under 32 min, ready to push, safely, for just a bit more for our 5k fundraiser & send off.
On Saturday, over 50 people showed up to support her in her victory lap(s). We ran, walked, rolled, completed distances big & small, all while supporting Kristin & each other, cheering, high five-ing & rallying around one another in a community effort. When all was said & done, Kristin smashed her goal, coming in at 31:11 at an average pace of 10:08/mile. We laughed, we cried, we had friendship bracelets for her comeback era (IYKYK), we partied, and we celebrated the power of recovery & community.
This amazing group of individuals came together as a family & a community - one that so clearly extends far beyond the walls of the gym. Not only that, but their fundraising efforts brought in just under $10K to the Fitness Fund, the community paying it forward to help another 10+ individuals get started on their journey to #betterthangoodenough recovery.
I am humbled to be a part of something so incredible, honored to coach you all, & beyond proud of you, Kristin. Thanks for letting me be a part of your comeback era. The best is yet to come π
