Our Approach

Fit to Function blends functional fitness with cognitive rehabilitation in an adaptive, 1:1 and community-focused environment that benefits survivors of brain injury and stroke. Through this unique approach, delivered through a multi-disciplinary coaching team that goes beyond routine rehabilitation therapies, Fit to Function supports patients recovering from neurologic injuries in achieving functional movement and global fitness with generalization into real world activities while addressing their cognitive-communicative needs.

We use recovery foundations of neuroplasticity, create individually tailored speech/language/cognitive rehabilitative protocols and blend them with targeted and global functional fitness focused on movement generalization to promote carryover into everyday functional routines. Our goal is to get you moving better, talking and thinking better, while improving general fitness, endurance, confidence, and independence. Our approach is 1:1 treatment, targeting your language and cognition while you move. Following an initial on boarding process, our aim is to integrate clients into small group and community style CrossFit classes.

Our Clients

We treat clients recovering from a range of neurological injury, with a primary focus on survivors of stroke and traumatic brain injury. We set no limits on those we can help, and will work with you on your first visit to establish a plan that supports your needs. Our belief is that everyone can benefit from a functional fitness routine with an emphasis on functional independence.
“I don't know where I would be without Spencer and Jenna! They got me to do things with my right hand that I couldn't do before my stroke, and my aphasia is getting better and better!"
- JK, Stroke Survivor, Age 29
"We are really pleased with the changes we see in him!"
- SW, ABI Survivor Caretaker (Age 45)

"We are so excited by this program. This is exactly the kind of thing he needs, that just wasn't out there before!"
- CM, Family Member, T BI Survivor (Age 39)

"Jenna's gift is her passion for speech therapy, as well as the relationships with her clients. She finds a way to make it work for those who can't explain their needs, make their progress improve every day, and continue to make those days interesting and (dare I say) fun! Having Jenna as my speech therapist for a year and half changed my life and I could not be more grateful for her help. I truly believe Jenna is meant for this career, and those who work with her will make so much more progress than they ever thought they could."

- JS, TBI Survivor, Age 44

"I have worked with Jenna for over two years with remote programming (as I’m based in the UK). I originally worked with Jenna for competitive adaptive CrossFit programming but now work with her to keep challenging my fitness whilst working around/with neurological issues. Her programming is challenging in all the right ways, and serves to prove that you are always capable of more than you think. She also has a unique ability to workshop neuro issues, constantly thinking outside of the box for solutions and not taking no for answer!"

-AU, MS Fighter, Age 41

 "I'm getting my life back!"

- SS, Stoke Survivor, Age 42

"With Jenna you get a whole lot more than a physical trainer of the body! She combines her expertise in neuro-rehabilitation, speech-language therapy, and physical fitness to truly focus on both the body and the mind. Not only that, but her inspirational, friendly, and easygoing personality makes her workouts super engaging, even for a 10 year old. Our outings to "Jenna's gym" have been a highlight of my daughter's week. And I've enjoyed seeing my little girl work harder than I thought possible at this stage of her recovery. "

-SY, ABI Survivor Mother (Age 10)

"My daughter absolutely loves her Fit to Function sessions. Jenna comes to every session with a clear game plan. She uses creative exercises to help my daughter work on her physical mobility and speech goals, and has a deep clinical understanding of how the brain and body work. Jenna motivates my daughter to push herself, focus on her goals, gain skills, and most importantly, have fun!"

- CE, ABI Survivor Mother (Age 4)

"I have POTS and EDS and have struggled to be able to manage keeping my strength up to keep my joints and my heart haelthy and safe. I've never succeeded in the traditional "gym class" setting, as I always ended up in pain and discouraged. Working with Jenna and Sara, I've never felt more supported snd successful! Not only have they been able to adapt workouts that fit my changing needs for every session, they've been able to succesfully help me alter my mindset from "I can't do this, I give up" to "I can make alterations, I can keep going, I can still succeed". I also have a service dog who helps me with my daily tasks, and Fit to Fuction has welcome him with open arms. And he loves going to their gym. I'm so happy I've found this team. They've added so much value to my life and I would highly recommend training with the Fit to Function team!"
